Doug’s guitar gear at home keeps getting simpler and simpler over the years!
At the tender age of 6 Doug was given the opportunity to learn guitar. He was introduced to the world of chords, and just a week or so after trying to master both D and A major chords, his fingers hurt, he gave up and would not touch a guitar again until he was 12.
It’s hard to recall the motivation that led to him to the guitar again at 12, but it was probably seeing his mates play the instrument at school. His brother had a Yamaha folk guitar and he would secretly use it when he was in school. Occasionally his brother would return home prematurely and Doug would get a telling off for using it.
For around four years, this secret practice routine saw him do nothing much on the guitar except strumming and fingerpicking. It wasn’t until Doug checked into college and came face to face with a new schoolmate who opened his eyes as to what could really be done on the guitar. Thanks Rudin!
That same year Doug bought his first electric guitar, a grey Ibanez S Series and practised incessantly for the next couple of years.
As they say, the rest is history…
